Applying for a job

We use an online application process for all our vacancies. If you find a vacancy you’re interested in applying for, please complete a few steps online to submit your application. Please follow the instructions on the screen.

Unfortunately, we can’t hold CVs on file or accept speculative applications. However, you can register for email alerts. You’ll then be emailed about any new vacancies that match your requirements as soon as they become available.

For roles that require specific technical skills, we may ask you to complete a test as part of the recruitment process. The Talent Acquisition team can advise.

Please contact recruitment@unitestudents.com if you feel you may require any reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process, and we’ll work with you to ensure we take the best course of action for you.

You’ll receive an email confirmation when your application has been submitted successfully. Because of the volume of applications, we may not be able to respond to everyone directly. We will contact you by email or telephone to update you on the status of your application.

Yes, you can apply for as many as you like.

We require all applications to be made online. However, if you’re prevented from submitting an online application for a specific reason, please contact the Talent Acquisition Team to discuss this by emailing recruitment@unitestudents.com.

Unfortunately, once you have submitted your application, you cannot make any changes to the information you have provided. Please email the Talent Acquisition Team at recruitment@unitestudents.com if there’s anything we should be aware of, and we will note the change.

If you’re successful, you’ll need to provide valid proof of your Right to Work in the UK before starting your employment with us. Unfortunately, we’re not currently licensed to sponsor work visas. We can provide further guidance on Right-to-Work documents during the recruitment process.

Because of the volume of applications, we’re unable to provide feedback at the application stage. If you’ve completed a face-to-face interview, we’ll be more than happy to provide detailed feedback.

Screening and interviewing

If you’re successful in your application, a member of the Talent Acquisition Team will be in touch with you to let you know that you have been shortlisted and to discuss the next steps of the process. Our interviews are designed to review your skills, values, and experience, and to provide you with further information about us and the vacancy.

We’re a values-based employer and, while we of course require a certain level of skill and experience for each role, we’re also looking for people who can demonstrate our values: Challenge the Ordinary, Unite as One, Lead with Heart, and Stay on Point.

The interview process will depend on the role you’re applying for. We use a combination of telephone, Teams, and face-to-face interviews, assessment centres, and skills-based assessments. Although we generally use a standard two-stage interview process, we may adjust it to ensure we’re acting appropriately for each role.

You should expect to meet friendly, passionate, open and informative people who are keen to learn more about you and your background. There’ll be lots of questions – technical, situational, competency and values-based – as well as the opportunity for you to find out more about the role and Unite Students as a company. Your interview is likely to last around an hour. If there are to be any assessments during the interview, the Talent Acquisition Team will let you know in advance.

If you’re applying for a role as a qualified Electrician or Plumber, you’ll be required to bring your actual certificates to the interview. We cannot offer Electrician or Plumber jobs without these.

If there are any tests or assessment exercises during the interview, the Talent Acquisition Team will let you know in advance.

We offer a variety of internships and placement schemes, all of which are on our careers page. Further information can be found here.

We don’t cover candidates’ travel expenses to and from an interview unless the circumstances are unusual, for example, if we ask you to attend an interview in a location other than one local to the role.

Hours of work will vary depending on your role. Specific working hours are detailed on our job adverts.

Working for Unite Group

We have frequent contact with our customers, and some roles require you to wear a smart-casual uniform. Where a uniform is required, or if your role requires protective clothing, we’ll provide it.

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a variety of benefits. These vary depending on the role and the position level. For more information, visit our what we offer page.
